Butt Weld Elbow – Adjusting the Flow Direction Of Fluid In Piping Systems

Butt weld elbow is a commonly used fitting in piping systems. It has a curved shape and can bend the pipe in a horizontal or vertical direction. It is connected to the pipe through welding, allowing the fluid or gas to flow along a specific path. It can be used to avoid obstacles, pass through walls or floors, and adapt to different spatial limitations and engineering requirements, achieving flexibility in pipe layout and optimizing the design of the piping system.

The butt weld elbow is designed to change the direction of the fluid in the piping system. It has a long radius (LR) and a short radius (SR) type, and has different degrees of coverage to: 30degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees, 90 degrees, and 180 degrees.

Types of  carbon steel buttweld pipe elbows

For example a description like:
Elbow, BW, 45 Degree, LR, NPS 6, SCH 40. Means the elbow in butt weld type, angle in 45 degree, length long radius (1.5 x diameter), thickness in Schedule 40.
A description like:
Elbow, BW, 90 Degree, SR, NPS 8, SCH80. Means butt weld elbow, fluid direction 90 degree, length in short radius (1 x diameter).

More than 90 degrees of elbow, we call it a steel bend. Like LR / SR 180 degree bend.
