ASTM API 5L SSAW steel pipe

SSAW steel pipe, also known as spiral submerged arc welded steel pipe, is a spiral welded steel pipe produced by double-sided submerged arc welding.

Generally speaking, when it comes to the same standard and steel grade, the price of SSAW pipe is cheaper or lower than ERW pipe and LSAW pipe. The strength is higher than the straight seam welded pipe.

Scope

ASTM / API 5L specifies the manufacture of two product levels (PSL1 and PSL2) of seamless and welded steel pipe for the use of a pipeline in the transportation of petroleum and natural gas.
For material use in a sour service application, refer to Annex H; for an offshore service application, refer to Annex J of API 5L 45th Edition.
